IDEA PROGRAM MISSION STATEMENT
To shape a shared understanding of how bias affects the vitality of creative inheritance and communal livelihood.
All program workshops that include exercises and roundtable discussions assess how cultural insensitivity is developed and reinforced through media, cultural traditions, social interactions, and one’s personal upbringing. Components of that discussion then measure how those same biases manifest into arts programming, cultural planning, and accessibility compliance. The program is not facilitated through an advocacy or social justice approach. The primary objective is to create an open and safe space that encourages participants to constructively reflect, acknowledge and own their personal biases despite gender, physical or racial assignment. This program is specifically designed for arts administrators, business owners, community leaders, educators, and cultural institution leaders.
