NATURAL HISTORY COLLECTIONS AT NEVADA STATE MUSEUM, LAS VEGAS
Scholars from all over the world visit NSMLV to study our extensive natural history, biology, geology, archaeology, and paleontology collections. We also are home to the Nevada’s state fossil, a Shonisaurus popularis ichthyosaur. Researchers should contact 702-822-8737 for more information.
In the spring of 2015, paleontologists from UNR and the Smithsonian came to the museum to begin digital scans of our ichthyosaur. Paige, a student at UNR, is seen here with a front ichthyosaur flipper.
Here’s Neil, from the Pyenson Lab at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, with a back ichthyosaur flipper.
