The Great War: The Western Front and the Nevada Homefront
The Great War: The Western Front and the Nevada Homefront is NSMLV’s first collaboration with the Springs Preserve, and exhibition material will be on view at Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas and the Origen Museum at Springs Preserve. The exhibit is scheduled to be on view at Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas through April 2019.
The Great War: The Western Front and the Nevada Homefront focuses on Nevada’s involvement in World War I, from within the state and in the context of the larger world view. Additionally, the exhibit highlights the effects of the Influenza Pandemic of 1918 and the effects of the outbreak in conjunction with the events of World War I. While NSMLV centers on Nevada and World War I (the Homefront), the exhibit at the Springs Preserve’s Origen Museum will explore World War I from a larger international perspective (the Western Front.)
Original Army and Navy uniforms from the time period are on exhibit at the museum, along with service medals, draft notices, discharge papers, Las Vegas newspapers, propaganda posters, photographs, and letters home. Artifacts on exhibit are from the NSMLV collections, the Nevada Historical Society, UNLV Special Collections, and Sin City Postcards.
Crystal Van Dee and Ilana Short, exhibit curators, and Dennis McBride, Museum Director, are available for media interviews and appearances. Please contact Ilana Short (702-822-8738 / email@example.com), Communication and Outreach, to schedule a media appearance or interview regarding the exhibition.
