Join us in celebrating the Sesquicentennial of the Carson City U.S. Branch Mint and Women’s History Month. At 11:00am Robert Nylen, Curator of History at the Nevada State Museum, will talk about the various women who worked at the Carson City U.S. Branch Mint from 1870 when it opened until the building stopped being a U.S. Assay office in 1930. From 12:00pm-4:00pm we will be running Historic Coin Press No. 1 and minting Merci Train Medallions. At 2:00pm we will have a short presentation Mina Stafford commemorating the 100th anniversary of the first airplane flight over the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Silver planchetts can be purchased in the museum store to have your own medallion pressed on Historic Coin Press No. 1.
Admission is $8 for adults, members and children 17 and under are free.
