Writers’ Wednesday – 11/14/18
Wednesday, November 14, 2018
5:00 – 5:30 pm – Book Signing, Wine and Cheese reception
5:30 – 6:30 pm – Lecture
Please join us for an evening with guest authors, Mike Mantor and Gerry McCarroll, who will discuss their book entitled, Rock ‘n’ Reno.
Mantor was in one of the earliest rock bands of Reno and went on to form, and play in, other Reno bands. He also started his own booking agency which worked with numerous Reno rock bands of the era.
The ’60’s, ’70’s and ’80’s saw an emergence of rock bands in the U.S., and around the world. Reno was no exception. Influenced by the “British Invasion”, many started out as home-grown garage bands. Some lasted longer than others, some morphed into different iterations as musicians came and went, and some of the musicians had careers that reached the big time. This is the definitive story of the bands that came and went during that period of time in “The Biggest Little City in the World”
The Writers’ Wednesday Lecture Series, held the second Wednesday of each month, features a different author who takes part in a book signing, a presentation and a question-and-answer session with the audience. A wine and cheese reception precedes the lecture.
The intent of the program is to highlight writers who specifically focus on Nevada, the Great Basin, or the West in general. The authors talk about the content of their books but also share details about the creative process.
